Happy Valentine's Day!

This year Sydney loved telling everyone "Happy Valentine's Day", and continued saying it for several days afterward.  We had fun making cookies and decorating them with friends as well as giving and receiving Valentines.  As sappy as it is, I love any reason for telling each other how much love we have!

Disney On Ice

At the beginning of December, Blake and I took Sydney to see Disney on Ice.  We weren't sure how she would like it, especially since she hasn't seen any of the movies.  She is familiar with Mickey and Minnie, so we figured she would at least be a bit entertained by them.  To say she liked would be an understatement.  She was totally engrossed the entire time and still talks about going to see the "show".  In fact, she now pretends that she is "ice skating like Mickey" all the time.  This simply means she is running around in circles.  :)  Overall her favorites were Mickey and Goofy and the Little Mermaid part, especially Sebastian and Flounder.

We went with Sydney's friend Lilyanne and her parents (thanks for the awesome seats, Dianne!).  Sydney constantly talks about Lilyanne, but the funny part is that they basically ignore each other whenever we get together.  When it was time to go, we tried to get the girls to hug each other before leaving.  They both acted super shy and braced for a hug, but neither actually extended arms or even attempted a hug.  So funny to see how two year olds interact!  I hate that I didn't get any pictures of them together...

Happy 2nd Birthday, Sydney!

Sydney is TWO!  This probably sounds odd, but this year's birthday has been more emotional for me than her first.  When she turned one, she was still a baby to me, especially because she wasn't walking yet or even crawling.  Now she is a little girl; a sweet, talkative, kind-hearted little girl whom I love more everyday.

We started off her birthday with a stop at Brugger's for a bagel and then headed to the zoo, a tradition we started last year.  Like last year, the zoo was not crowded and we were able to see all the animals fairly close up.  Sydney definitely enjoyed it more this year than last, but her favorite was a temporary exhibit that wasn't there last time....anamatronic dinosaurs!  She was a little apprehensive about them moving and making sounds, but quickly got over it and kept saying "wanna see more dinosaurs!".

The celebration continued with a pizza dinner with MeMe and Pops, opening presents, and eating cake (a dinosaur cake at that!).  Some of her favorite gifts were a wagon from MeMe and Pops, a playhouse, and a magnetic ocean creature puzzle.

We also celebrated with family and friends at Pullen Park.  The weather could not have been more perfect, although the park was definitely busy because of it.  Sydney had a great time celebrating with friends and family...topped off with a ride on the train!

Here are a few things I want to remember about Sydney at 2 years old:
*She continues to amaze me with her language.  She speaks in sentences and uses words like reflection and pterodactyl correctly.
*She has finally learned how to jump...after much work on her part!
*She loves to read, I mean l.o.v.e.s.  Some of her current favorite books are any Little Critter books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Noah's Ark, and a Lion King book.
*She is smitten with dinosaurs.  She has been saying for the past few weeks that she wants to be a "green T-rex with Bronty (brontosaurs) on the back" for Halloween.  (I'm not sure what the Bronty on the back means...)
*Her go-to name is "Freddy".  If she gets a new stuffed animal, she asks "What we gonna name him?" and then immediately answers herself with "Freddy".  Also, if I don't know the name of something she says "it's Freddy".  For example, we were playing with some Disney Princess stickers.  I know the names of some of them like Cinderella and Belle, but I'm not familiar with some of the newer princesses.  I was telling her the names of the ones I knew and when we got to one I didn't know, I told her so and she responded with "that's Freddy".

Beachin' It Up 2012

We have been to the beach several times this spring and summer.  Instead of doing lots of different posts about the beach, I figured I would condense them all into one post.

Sydney started off the summer a little hesitant towards the ocean.  She loved digging in the sand while sitting on a blanket and enjoyed watching the going-ons on the beach like kites, surfers, and boats.  When we would get close to the ocean, however, she would cling to us and lay her head on our shoulders.  Her Pops dug her a small pool near the ocean, and she enjoyed sitting in it digging with her toys.  Slowly but surely she started to show less trepidation but still insisted on being held.  Finally, Blake put her down in the waves one afternoon without any warning.  The tide had gone out and there were small tidal pools and the water was shallow in general.  Low and behold, she LOVED it!  We held her hands while she "jumped" over the waves, she pretended to catch fish for her daddy to eat, and she would splash the water with her hands.  I know her love of the ocean will continue to grow!

We also did a few of Sydney's favorite things as well.  We went a couple of times to the aquarium, where she loves watching the fish, penguins, turtles, and otters.  She is not too keen on the sharks (who can blame her??) but she randomly loves to watch the jelly fish and the one long, nasty eel.  Oddly enough, probably her most beloved thing to do is ride the trolley in Beaufort.  The trolley rides around the historic Beaufort waterfront down to the marina and back again.  I think we have done this ride at least 10 times this summer and it never gets old for her.  She looks out the window the entire time and watches for her favorite things (a pirate someone has in the doorway of a tiny fishing cottage and the "green guy" which is a plastic thing human shape cutout, not sure how else to describe it).  Funny that is what she likes to look at when there are gorgeous waterfront homes and tons of boats.

Sydney also had a couple of 'firsts' while at the beach.  She enjoyed her first popsicle on the 4th of July (redneck baby style in her diaper of course).  Moral of the popsicle story: it melted fast and she talks too much to truly enjoy yet- ha! :)  She also took her first boat ride.  While at the beach with her Uncle Brent and Aunt (soon to be official) Catherine, we took a dolphin watching cruise.  Moral of this story?  We saw zero dolphins and Sydney liked looking at the captain's dog more than anything else.  In all seriousness, she liked being on the boat and even got to steer on a pretend ship's wheel and saw a baby osprey nest with three hatchlings peeking out.  I was disappointed to not see any dolphins, but Sydney liked finally riding on a boat!  She also went on a pier for the first time.  She liked looking around and the wind blew her hair in ways that made for some hilarious pictures.

My favorite memory, though, is probably one not involving Sydney.  While at the beach with Brent and Catherine, they got engaged!!!!  When I met Catherine in 9th grade, never would I have imagined that we would become sister (in-laws) one day.  Blake, Sydney, and I relished in celebrating their engagement and look forward to a wedding soon.  Brent and Catherine compliment each other so well, something that I don't see everyday.  I am so thankful they have found happiness together!

And now, here are about 1,000 pictures, put together from several different trips (only about half of what we actually took!):
